Rachael Lloyd has just finished her run in the role of the mother, 'Cathy', in Mark-Anthony Turnage's new opera of The Railway Children at Glyndebourne in October 2025.
Rachael is excited to return on 20th July 2026, in a concert performance of The Railway Children at the Aberystwyth MUSICFEST with the Welsh National Opera!

Rachael Lloyd studied singing at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama with Jane Highfield and Rudolf Piernay.
Recent roles have included: The role of Mother in the world premiere of Pay the Piper at Glyndebourne, Kate Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly at the Royal Opera House, Emily in Venables 4:48 Psychosis in Paris, Strasbourg and New York, Grimgerde in Wagner’s Die Walküre, Alisa in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor and Selene in Handel’s Berenice at the Royal Opera House and Miss Jessel in Britten’s Turn Of The Screw and Dido in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas for English National Opera.
Other roles have included: Meg Page in Verdi’s Falstaff and Cornelia in Handel’s Giulio Cesare at Glyndebourne, Third Lady in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, Pitti-Sing in The Mikado and the role of Mother in Jonathan Dove’s The Day After for English National Opera, Madame Anderson in Sondheim’s A Little Night Music at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris and the title role in Carmen at the Royal Albert Hall.
Rachael regularly performs in concerts around the country. Career highlights have included Handel’s Messiah with the OAE and The Sixteen, both Ravel’s Trois Poemes de Stephane Mallarme and a Shakespeare 400 concert with the LPO at the Royal Festival Hall and a recital of Schumann’s Frauenliebe und Leben and Elgar’s Sea Pictures at Lille Opera House. Recent concert highlights have included Amastre in a concert performance of Xerxes with Christian Curnyn and the Early Opera Company at St John’s, Smith Sq, Grimgerde in Die Walküre with Vladimir Jurowski and the LPO and Handel’s Brockes-Passion with the Ancient Academy of Music at the Barbican.
Most recently, Rachael played the role of Cathy in the world premiere of Mark-Anthony Turnage’s new opera of The Railway Children at Glyndebourne.
